The Blue Yeti is our favorite computer mic. Our top choice for the best PC microphone is the Blue Yeti. Not only is the sound quality excellent for the price, but it has features that I’ve found I cannot live without (I use it on a Mac for podcasting).
- Overall, the Blue Yeti X is an improvement over the Blue Yeti Blackout edition, but skip it as a Mac user. Until Blue and Logitech make the voice mixing software available, you won't get your money's worth. Stick to the Blue Yeti and Blue Yeti Pro for now. 99 people found this helpful.

I am currently using OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.1. I have had my Blue Yeti Microphone for less than 90 days and have had no problems what so ever with the mic or with the Mac recognizing it. This is a USB microphone and is considered a plug n play. There is no other installation other than simply plugging it into the USB port. For settings, you are to open up Preferences > Sounds > and then select Yeti Stereo Microphone for the input and output and adjust volumes accordingly. My Mac has always said 'Yeti Stereo Microphone' here. When I plugged in my mic, I got a pop up that said new audio device detected, which is normal. When I went to Preferences > Sounds > I saw USB Advanced Audio Device instead of Yeti Stereo Microphone. I could never get it to populate Yeti Stereo Microphone so I tried selecting USB Advanced Audio Device instead. I opened up Logic Pro X and made sure the input and output settings were also reflecting USB Advanced Audio Device (Yeti was not an option in the drop down list), and then I proceeded to record. It was terrible. I plug headphones directly into the mic itself. Any other time, I can hear myself speaking into the mic through the headphones. This time I could not, though I could see sound waves where the program was in fact recording me. The waves were much larger than normal. When I listened to the playback, it played through my headphones and had terrible distortion and quality and all I could hear were the sounds of Mac running over my recording. I have already sent an email to Blue Yeti, but I don't think the problem is with the mic as it has been kept in pristine condition. I believe the problem is with my Mac. How can I get my Mac to recognize my mic as Yeti Stereo Microphone instead of USB Advanced Audio Device? There is a dramatic difference between these two options. I have already tried restarting my Mac and that did not work. The cable to the mic is perfect, all settings on the actual mic are also perfect. My Mac is not reading it properly. Thank you!!!
